My Personal Art History
I’m a lucky man!
My working life has been full of creativity.
At first, in the mid-80s (the era of the airbrush), as a ‘wet behind the ears’ illustration graduate living in Brighton, I had a successful decade freelancing as an historical reconstruction illustrator, working in London for some of the biggest publishing houses in the world.
Towards the end of that time, I found myself moving up to Yorkshire where I’ve lived ever since, enjoying the beautiful countryside here, in and around the elegant surrounding of Harrogate.
Illustrating took a back seat as I fell into museum exhibition design – a sideways hop that took me away from my 2D interpretation of history and into the 3D – a move that lasted 25 years! I got into interior design too, the zenith of which was to design a bespoke, high-end staircase! I really have done all sorts.
And then, just a few years ago, with the travel and stress of that work beginning to tell, I fell back into painting, picking up my brushes with a vengeance for the first time in many years.
And now I’m here, painting fine art watercolours, especially of the landscapes and seascapes of my adopted home county. I’ve been lucky enough to have wonderful people love my work enough for me to be able to make a living out of ‘colouring in’ as my wife likes to call it, (although she is very proud that I am able to keep within the lines)!
I hope you will become one on my ever-expanding list of friends and collectors, and that I will have the privilege of having some of my work, be it a print, a painting, or a commission, gracing the walls of your home; that you will own a piece of artwork ‘By Jonothan’.
