Victims and Saviours

Spurn Point is a three and a half mile curved spit of sand that curls into the Humber Estuary at the southernmost point of Yorkshire’s coast.

The sands surrounding the bottom end of the Point are festooned with bleached tree carcasses – victims brought ashore by the power of the sea. This stump, complete with its root system was on the western side. For humans in peril on the seas around the Humber, the saviours of the RNLI are also situated at the same side of the Point. The large jetty the crew are stationed on during their shifts can be seen in the background.
